Gianni Infantino has been seen back in public for the first time since he set fire to his FIFA presidency.
The Swiss-Italian seems to have done the impossible and made himself potentially unelectable with a so-called ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ plan.
The selling-off of World Cup rights to private investors wasn’t even known to his number two at the governing body and the failed deal has sparked epic fury.
Football associations and entire continental governing bodies have withdrawn their support for Infantino’s 2027 re-election and he’s since gone on the defensive, holding a crisis meeting in Morocco.
Infantino hadn’t been seen in public since the World Cup and the plan making headlines worldwide – until now.
Infantino reappears in Colombia
The 56-year-old has been photographed in Colombia, meeting their football federation’s president Alejandro Dominguez, likely in an effort to garner support.
In a statement from the the federation, they also stated that Infantino will be attending the inauguration of Colombia’s new populist president Abelardo de la Espriella.
Accused of sexual harassment, De la Espriella is anti abortion and has expressed his desire to reduce other women’s rights and change adoption laws.
He also said in a bizarre interview that as a child he tied fireworks to cats to see if they could fly, but enjoyed watching them explode.
Furthermore, Infantino’s new friend has promised to build 10 mega prisons across Colombia and ‘kill criminals like rats and cockroaches’.
In a statement, the federation wrote: “The Colombian Football Federation extends its warmest welcome to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez on the occasion of their official visit to our country.
“The leaders’ agenda will begin in the morning in the city of Cali, at the fields of the Pan American Sports Unit, where they will attend the “Football Festival tailored to boys and girls”.
“In the afternoon, the day’s events will continue in the diplomatic sphere. The FIFA president will attend the official presidential inauguration ceremony of Abelardo de la Espriella, scheduled for 3:00 pm at the USC Arena of the Santiago de Cali University.
“The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) thanks Presidents Gianni Infantino and Alejandro Domínguez for their presence and support on this important day for Colombia.”
