Jose Mourinho has started his Real Madrid revolution at the club’s training ground.
However, it’s not just tactics, but also behavioural.
AS claim that Mourinho has brought in three new key rules, one of which may not go down well with star striker Kylian Mbappe.
The first rule comes down to nutrition, with the role of dietary scientists no longer advisory but mandatory.
Second is punishment for late arrivals at training and games.
Yet unlike other clubs where punishments came in the form of fines, Mourinho has deemed such penalties meaningless for multi-millionaires.
Instead, those who are later will be removed from group training and forced to work alone in the gym.
Jose Mourinho’s most controversial new rule change
Finally, and most dramatically, Mourinho has banned any medical treatment taking place outside of the Valdebebas training ground.
No external treatments are allowed and recovery will be conducted under the club’s guidance.
That final rule corresponds to one of the biggest dramas of Real Madrid’s trophyless 2025/26 season.
Kylian Mbappe sought treatment outside of the club, heading back to France for an ongoing issue.
Even more incredibly, Madrid were accused of treating Mbappe’s wrong knee.
In a report at the time that was later corroborated by other sources, RMC Sport’s Daniel Riolo made some sensational claims.
Real Madrid were accused of treating Mbappe’s wrong knee
“He came to see one of the leading knee specialists in France,” he said in March.
“Meanwhile, we know there was a misdiagnosis in Madrid because he clearly wasn’t happy about it and was even angry.
“He came to consult a doctor (in France) who apparently determined that they had done a poor job in Madrid.
“It’s already pretty crazy that a club like Real Madrid, which, let’s remember, fired its medical staff in January, I believe.
“We were told it was because there were a lot of injuries at Real Madrid. I can say that it’s because the diagnosis of Mbappé’s knee was so catastrophic, and certainly worse than catastrophic since it was an absolutely major error.
“And that’s why they fired everyone, plus the string of injuries, but largely it was because of that.”
Riolo then levelled an extraordinary claim about Madrid’s medical team.
He continued: “What’s being said in ‘official circles’ is that the blunder is absolutely enormous
“They’re saying they examined the wrong knee at Real Madrid.”
After laughter from his co-pundits, he finished: “You think I’m talking nonsense? Real Madrid fired everyone. There you have it. Do you realise the humiliation for a club like Real Madrid?”
The issue dominated Madrid’s end of season under Alvaro Arbeloa, with the club and Mbappe’s entourage briefing against each other in the media.
