Alvaro Arbeloa has commented on the biggest story of the week at Real Madrid – a social media like.
Kylian Mbappe caused some unexpected headlines by liking an Instagram post about Jose Mourinho joining Real Madrid.
The post showed Mourinho alongside Mbappe and Arda Guler, commenting on rumours he’s on Florentino Perez’s shortlist.
Arbeloa is already a lame duck at Madrid having managed a worse record that Xabi Alonso and ensured a trophyless season.
Yet he still had a strangely spikey reaction to the question about Mbappe.
“It doesn’t bother me that Mbappé likes posts from either Mourinho or Julia Roberts,” he said.
Arbeloa also commented on Madrid’s final goals for the season, with Barcelona nine points clear and cruising towards the La Liga title.
“Our objective has to be to win all six matches, regardless of what Barcelona does,” he said.
“We need to perform at a high level, continue to grow, and improve many things in La Liga.
“Our only concern is winning tomorrow, and then we’ll focus on the remaining matches.”
He added: “My main objective shouldn’t be motivating the Real Madrid players. They have to demand a lot of themselves.
“My job is to prepare them for what they’re going to encounter on the pitch, to give them a very clear idea of how they want to play. That’s what I dedicate most of my time to.”
Mourinho to Madrid?
Mourinho continues to insist he wants to stay at Benfica, but also appears to be unhappy with the current situation.
He signed a two-year deal with a break clause in September, something he made clear to Real Madrid during a press conference.
His defence of Gianluca Prestianni appeared to end any thought of a Bernabeu return, but reports in Portugal suggest Perez is still open to the idea.
And for Benfica, a new contract isn’t under consideration, meaning Madrid could have a willing partner if they did want to open talks with one of their former greats.
