Donald Trump’s FIFA Peace Prize now makes some sense.
After years of sucking up to the US president, Gianni Infantino’s motives may be becoming clearer.
According to a US Supreme Court order obtained by French outlet So Foot, the Department of Justice was preparing to dismiss a large part of the criminal proceedings in ‘FIFA-gate’.
Dated January 12th 2026, it relates to the 2015 FIFA corruption case when the FBI raided offices in Zurich and arrested seven officials of football’s governing body.
According to So Foot, this new change of position by the federal government ‘raises questions, as it significantly reduces the legal risks surrounding those on the periphery of FIFA , including Infantino who was one of them before becoming president of the international governing body’.
Not only did Infantino invent the FIFA Peace Prize for Trump, but he opened an office in Trump Tower and gifted him the original version of the FIFA Club World Cup trophy.
