Gianni Infantino’s brain-dead Instagram post has been hammered by one of football’s leading voices in Spain.
The FIFA president posted a wordy response to his many critics on his personal and the FIFA account.
In it he falsely denied Iran had an error-free tournament, and bizarrely claimed that the unprecedented overturning of Folarin Balogun’s red card after a White House request was common practice.
LaLiga’s president Javier Tebas has responded in brutal fashion.

“Today Gianni Infantino has written a pathetic message on his Instagram account and on the accounts of FIFA,” he wrote.
“No one disputes that football is emotion and unity. But transparency, good governance, and accountability are never hate; they are an obligation.
“Strong institutions do not discredit those who ask questions; they answer the questions.
“And a reflection Gianni: when a leader dedicates an entire message to disqualifying those who exercise legitimate scrutiny, it’s inevitable to wonder… why precisely now?
“Is there something that explains such a defensive tone? Is something happening that we don’t know about?”

Highlights (or lowlights) from Infantino’s earlier post read: “In fact, ‘questionable’ refereeing decisions or ‘strange’ disciplinary rulings, such as potentially wrong red or yellow cards or subsequent decisions not to suspend players in certain situations, are routine and widely accepted in some of the world’s biggest leagues.
“It’s curious that the countries that apply these practices are the ones that criticize them the most.
“Iran entered the United States without incident or conflict. While you spread hatred, we worked tirelessly to unite two countries at war. Football is bigger than hatred and discrimination.
“Countries facing serious health problems or other challenges received visas. You mentioned the few people who were refused visas and ignored the millions who were approved, from all parts of the world.
“To those who spend their time and energy hating us, please take a moment to reflect, meditate, pray, or watch a football match and truly observe the faces, the eyes, the emotions.”
