Leandro Paredes is being linked with a return to Europe.
Fresh off his World Cup final headloss while playing for Argentina, the midfielder is being linked with AC Milan in his home media ESPN.
Paredes is currently playing in Argentina for Boca Juniors, with whom he still has a two year contract.
The 32-year-old spent most of his career in Italy with Roma, Juventus, Empoli and Chievo.
Paredes keeps embarrassing himself
He left Roma for Boca last summer, and quickly returned to them after his World Cup final humilation.
But he kept his villainous streak alive in a recent 2-2 draw with Newell’s Old Boys, needlessly booting a loose ball at a fouled opponent.
The display of petulance came just weeks after he attacked Spain’s Eric Garcia and Gavi after the World Cup final.
One of the most memorable responses to the incident was from Milan senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, suggesting the links may be wide of the mark despite ESPN being so reliable.
Paredes could link up with Ibrahimovic
Speaking after the final, Ibrahimovic said: “He can be glad there weren’t any players like me on the pitch.
“If I had been there, I would have headbutted him and been sent off as well.
“That’s extremely unprofessional of him.”
But he then added: “I don’t know what the Spanish players are doing, they’re just watching as another player beats up a teammate.”
Paredes gets surprise defence
Despite Ibrahimovic’s anger, Paredes was surprisingly defended by Gavi.
Speaking at a welcome home event in Sevilla, he said: “I don’t think they should be sanctioned.
“I understand it’s not a good image for the younger players, but football also has that violent side.
“Perhaps the most logical thing would be to send him off during the match.
“In the end, it’s all football.”
