World Cup final villain Leandro Paredes has continued to live up to his reputation upon returning to Argentina.
The midfielder disgraced himself after the 1-0 defeat to Spain with a physical assault on Eric Garcia and Gavi.
Paredes has shown no remorse since, even under the threat of a substantial FIFA ban.
He’s since tried to put the scenes behind him by getting straight back to work with club side Boca Juniors.
However, things aren’t exactly going well.
Boca are languishing in the Clausera with no thanks to Paredes last time out.
Boca had a decent first half against Newell’s Old Boys to go 1-0 up, but conceded two quick goals with Paredes at fault for the first.
Cóccaro’s touch left him for dead before he finished and soon after Newell’s had the lead.
Clearly growing frustrated, the ball became loose from a tackle on Facundo Guch, and Paredes flew in to boot the ball straight at him.
Luckily for Paredes, he only received a yellow card, and Boca were able to equalise late on.
The scenes were reminiscent of when he booted the ball at the Netherlands bench during the 2022 World Cup.
Identifying Paredes’ role in Boca’s struggles, La Nacional cited the team’s reliance on youngsters.
They wrote: “Amidst these emotional ups and downs, and while still searching for reinforcements, Boca needs to rely on the youngsters Flores, Gorosito, and Aranda.
“The experienced Sebastián Villa, Paredes, and Merentiel haven’t quite reached the level expected of them.”
