Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso has shown his class once again with an amazing gesture towards club staff.
The coaching sensation, who won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal in his first full season in senior football before adding the DFL Super Cup, has made sure his coaching staff have got a fond reminder of their heroics.
Alonso has made 11 small replica copies of the Bundesliga ‘Meisterschale’ for every member of the coaching team, a gesture which cost him €60,000.
Discussing the move, he said: “I have a copy of all the trophies I have won at home.
“Now I have this championship trophy too. This success is a great memory for everyone. That’s why I did it.”
Sporting director Simon Rolfes added: “It’s a great gesture from Xabi and nice proof that the coaches are a very good team.”
