Bayer Leverkusen‘s search for Xabi Alonso’s replacement is ‘well advanced’ according to Kicker.
The German outlet also detailed the four men in the frame with Alonso now certain to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
They claim that Erik ten Hag is the number one candidate having impressed Europe at Ajax before an underwhelming stint at Manchester United where he did still win two trophies.
‘Dominant possession-based football’ is said to be the club’s priority, and with that comes two Spanish candidates.
Barcelona legend Xavi is said to ‘fit perfectly’ into the club’s model, while he also speaks very good English.
That’s a mark against Imanol Alguacil, who has announced he will leave Real Sociedad at the end of the season, and only speaks Spanish.
Meanwhile there is a German talent in the mix, Brighton’s Fabian Hürzeler, although he would have to work out a way to leave the Seagulls for free, with Leverkusen unwilling to pay his double-digit buy-out clause.
