Uli Hoeness’ ongoing presence at Bayern Munich is now under fire from the media.
The club legend’s job title is now ‘honorary president’ but reports continue to claim that he’s just as important as ever and has final say on most topics, including transfers.
According to former academy product Markus Babbel who has over 200 appearances for the club, the set up is no longer working.
“I don’t understand Uli Hoeness anymore, but I haven’t for a long time,” he said.
“He doesn’t even realize that he’s now FC Bayern‘s biggest problem. He’s doing the club more harm than good at the moment.”
Hoeness recently insulted pundit Lothar Matthaus over his criticism of their public pursuit of Nick Woltemade and Babbel doesn’t understand why the 73-year-old still has such a role.
“Uli Hoeness comes along again and publicly insults him. And I ask myself: What’s the point?” he continued.
“He played a huge role in Bayern‘s development, but now, in my opinion, he has to decide: Either he’s fully back in the game and can continue as before, believing that he’s still in fashion – although times have changed, – or he stays away completely.
“His unclear role is a disaster for everyone involved. That’s why, for me, it’s no coincidence that they always come up short when it comes to crunch time and details are crucial.
“The team is top-notch, though. But at some point, that’s no longer a coincidence.”
