Uli Hoeness, the ultimate provocateur, may have finally met his match.
The honorary Bayern Munich president has enjoyed shouting from the sidelines since stepping away from running the Bundesliga giants, often getting himself in trouble.
Hoeness went a step too far last season when he criticised former head coach Thomas Tuchel’s ability to develop young players and was roundly criticised by everyone at the club and in the media.
Well now, rather than him being the annoyance, he’s getting rather peeved himself with another club legend.
Discussing Germany‘s most high-profile football pundit, Hoeness commented: “Lothar Matthäus is responsible for the topics your asking here.
“When I have to read his nonsense every day, it’s really starting to get on my nerves.”
Commenting on criticism of Bayern’s summer, Hoeness added: “I have the feeling that our people are doing a good job and I know what is under contract with us on September 1st and I am pretty sure that we will have a team that can become German champions.”
The 72-year-old was also asked to respond to a report that he has the final say on transfers and responded: “That is total nonsense. That is exactly what the BILD newspaper is. I did not say anything decisive.
“I announced what the supervisory board of FC Bayern had decided. And all of you, including Lothar Matthaus, cannot read. And cannot listen.”
