Marco Silva’s communication style is being praised at Benfica after an exhausting year with Jose Mourinho.
Silva took over after a trophyless season and got off to a rapid start in Europa League qualification.
However, things took a turn with a Primeira Liga opening draw against Viseu.
Nevertheless, the Portuguese media are feeling some relief after a tough year with Mourinho.
Explaining the difference, Feirense coach Laurindo Filho said: “As far as the Benfica coach’s communication is concerned, last season, from a certain point onward, what we mostly saw and heard were excuses being made to justify what, in my opinion, was unjustifiable.
“At least so far, Marco Silva has tried to look at things from a different perspective and present a different viewpoint – one that is much more realistic, in my opinion, and also much more direct.
“He doesn’t want to make excuses; he wants to highlight what is currently being done well.
“Better than any of us, he knows perfectly well that not only has he not had enough time to work with this squad yet, but that this isn’t really his squad either, so to speak, because there are many players there whom he may ultimately decide not to rely on.
“He also wants reinforcements, as we’ve discussed throughout this broadcast.
“In that sense, I think Marco Silva answered all the questions put to him well.
“He didn’t try to avoid any topic, but above all, he didn’t try to make excuses.
“And I think that’s very important at this stage, when Benfica is once again trying to renew and rebuild itself.”
Marco Silva stays positive despite lack of spending
He added: “At least from the top of the hierarchy, there are no signs that there will be a clear strengthening of the squad, Marco Silva is doing what is expected of him: working well and getting the team to play good football – nothing more than that.
“He himself said that the level of efficiency shown today is unusual, so under normal circumstances Benfica would win matches like this.
“However, it is clearly important not to concede goals and not to show as much defensive passivity as was evident in today’s game.”
