Marco Silva will be Benfica’s new head coach.
A Bola report a dramatic turnaround in negotiations on Monday after Florentino Perez’s Real Madrid elections threatened to scupper the deal.
Perez’s election call means a €3million release clause in Jose Mourinho’s Benfica deal has no expired, and Madrid weren’t willing to pay the new €15m fee.
As such, super agent Jorge Mendes became frustrated with the situation and threatened to pull the plug on Silva unless Benfica changed their approach.
However, A Bola report that Silva held direct talks with Benfica on Monday and was given a ‘now or never’ ultimatum by the Portuguese side.
He’s chosen now, and is heading back to London to inform Fulham of his decision and back his bags.
The only uncertainty appears to be the conditions of the deal as it’s three years, but it’s unclear whether that’s two with the option of a third.
A Bola also add that Benfica are also likely to receive the full €15m release clause for Mourinho, helping to pay a signing bonus for Silva, making up for Fulham’s superior salary offer.
