Domencio Tedesco has found a new home, in Italy with Bologna.
The nomadic coach was born in Rossano, but his parents moved him to Germany aged just two where he later began his football career.
A former defender, Tedesco has been known to shine in his first season and dramatically drop off in his second across stints with Schalke, Leipzig and Belgium.
Most recently he coached Fenerbahce to a title challenge against Galatasaray, but fell short at the end of the season.
Nevertheless, thousands of fans turned up at the airport to say goodbye, angry with his firing.
He’ll now head to Italy, with Sky Germany reporting a deal with Bologna will be announced in due course.
The signing comes shortly after Vicenzo Italiano announced his mutual departure.
What makes the deal amusing, is that Italiano means ‘Italian’, and Tedesco means ‘German’.
This is the second rather funny coaching swap in recent months, with Markus Anfang replaced by Alexander Ende at Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Anfang literally means beginning in German, and Ende ‘end’.
Hopefully for Tedesco he’s nameswap will turn out better, with Ende taking Dusseldorf down to the third tier, alongside the team he started the season with – Preussen Munster.
