There were remarkable scenes at Istanbul airport as Fenerbahce fans showed an outpouring of love for Domenico Tedesco.
The German coach was heading back to Stuttgart days after his sacking by the Turkish Super Lig side.
Tedesco departs after less than eight months with a derby defeat to Galatasaray.
The loss essentially handed their Istanbul rivals the title, but under testing circumstances, with supporters believing the coach wasn’t at fault.
Chants of “Many coaches have come and gone, believe me, none were loved like this,” were heard, as was: “We’ll sell those who sold Tedesco.”
The coach was clearly taken aback as he received flowers and posed for photos, but he refused to speak to the media about his sacking.
It’s worth noting that when he first arrived at Fener, no fans came to the airport to greet the former Leipzig, Belgium and Schalke man, unlike they do with big signings.
Yet the love for Tedesco was similar upon his departure from the training ground when he was brought to tears by the hundreds who showed up to say goodbye.
