Real Madrid have exercised their buy-back option for Como’s Nico Paz, as per AS and Corriere dello Sport.
Paz joined Como from Real in 2024 for just €6million, and has become one of the stand-out young talents in Europe this season.
The Argentine has the second most goals in the league with 12, plus six assists, and he’s expected to be a fixture at this summer’s World Cup.
As such, Madrid have informed the player and Como that he will be brought back to Spain before the tournament.
Madrid had to make a call before May 30th, but have done so early as to keep up relations with Como who are keen to do the same.
Cesc Fabregas’ side have benefitted from Real’s famous academy for three seasons in a row, and already have an eye on Yáñez and Fortea for next year, with Madrid more than happy for players to develop at the lakeside club.
Paz’s mega season
As for Paz, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder was also linked with Inter Milan, but put aside any transfer speculation in a recent interview.
“Nothing happened [with Inter],” he said. “I don’t want to think about these things.
“I’m 100% focused here, at Como. I want to give everything on the pitch here. Then, if there’s an opportunity in the future, we’ll see.”
On the World Cup he added: “I’ve dreamed of it since I was little, since I watched the games on TV. It would be incredible for me, I work every day to get there.”
And on Fabregas and the current campaign, he finished: “He was the most important factor.
“He has a lot of faith in us, he’s a young coach, someone who lives for football, works hard, studies hard, and allows me to play the way I want to play. He’s fundamental.
“We’re having a good season; honestly, we didn’t expect it to be this good.
“The incredible work we’ve done is paying off, and I think we deserve it.
“We have to do everything we can; we’ll go and give it our all. We’re ready and we want to play as well as we can.”
