Como have paid an incredible €60million to bring Nico Paz back to the club after Real Madrid exercised their buy-back option.
Madrid paid just €10m to re-sign their academy player yesterday, but Como have almost instantly responded to their right of first refusal.
Madrid were hoping for a bidding war with Inter Milan, but Paz’s keenness to keep playing under Cesc Fabregas reportedly got the deal done.
The fee is almost triple their previous transfer record of €22m paid for Jesús Rodríguez from Real Betis last summer.
There is a caveat, though, Como could easily recuperate that fee next summer should Paz’s exceptional development continue.
Madrid will be able to exercise a new buy-back next summer for €80m.
Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Madrid weren’t expecting Como to pay the €60m option so quickly, ending Inter’s chances of upping the price.
Paz’s desperation to stay under Fabregas in the Champions League is also said to be key, with him unlikely to find a place under Jose Mourinho in Madrid.
Should Mourinho still be at the Bernabeu next seen and Paz not wanted, Como have the option to sell him to another side.
Yet in that case, Madrid would receive 50% of any deal, showing they still trust an academy star who’s quickly become one of the best players in Italy.
