Como’s sporting director, Carlalberto Ludi, has given his thoughts on the future of star midfielder Nico Paz.
Paz has lit up Serie A this season from attacking midfield and looks like he could well star for Argentina at the World Cup.
Paz has the second most goals in Italy with 12, plus six assists, and he’s in just his second season in senior football, aged 21.
Despite him defining Como on the pitch as much as Cesc Fabregas does off it, he may not be around for much longer.
Real Madrid’s buy-back clause explained
Paz was sold to Como by Real Madrid in 2024 and it’s widely reported that deal came with an affordable buy-back clause of around €10million.
In fact, latest reports claimed Madrid informed Paz and Como that they will activate the clause this summer.
However, according to Ludi, it’s not just Madrid who will make the final decision, but Paz himself.
“We will meet with Real Madrid at the end of the season to understand their intentions,” he said.
“From our point of view, the future is with Nico.
“We not only hope he stays, but we want him to stay, but we will be prepared for any scenario.”
Ludi also commented on Fabregas, who continues to be linked with Europe’s best clubs.
“He’s our guide,” the Italian responded. “His ambitions are completely aligned with ours.
“Despite having won everything, he has a great desire to learn and compete.”
Nico Paz addresses the transfer speculation
As for Paz, the midfielder has been keen not to comment on transfer speculation, with reports Inter are also trying to sign him.
“Nothing happened [with Inter],” he said. “I don’t want to think about these things.
“I’m 100% focused here, at Como. I want to give everything on the pitch here. Then, if there’s an opportunity in the future, we’ll see.”
On Fabregas and the current campaign, he added: “He was the most important factor.
“He has a lot of faith in us, he’s a young coach, someone who lives for football, works hard, studies hard, and allows me to play the way I want to play. He’s fundamental.
“We’re having a good season; honestly, we didn’t expect it to be this good.
“The incredible work we’ve done is paying off, and I think we deserve it.
“We have to do everything we can; we’ll go and give it our all. We’re ready and we want to play as well as we can.”
