Bodo/Glimt may be this season’s Champions League darlings, but not everyone is impressed.
The Norwegian side have taken down giants such as Manchester City, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid in this season’s tournament, clearly becoming the story of Europe so far.
Next up is Sporting in the last 16, and there’s no reason to think Bodo can’t make it to the last eight.
As is usual in such a scenario, teams become unpopular back home, and that’s the case with Bodo/Glimt, even if it’s from an unlikely source.
It’s not a Norwegian who’s been chastising them, but a Dane who played there with Rosenborg.
Former Arsenal and Juventus striker Nicklas Bendtner played away at Bodo twice and doesn’t have happy memories.
“It’s freezing cold, it’s boring, it’s gray, it’s dark…” he said on his podcast.
Bendtner then said the conditions and dressing rooms are so bad that it could impact the players.
“The dressing room is ridiculous,” he explained.
“Suddenly, players who earn between €250,000 and €700,000 a week find themselves sitting there staring at each other, thinking, ‘I hope you have a good day because I’m not here. I’m not here for anything.’”
Bendtner even suggested some players faked injury to avoid the trip, just not the artificial turf that Cristian Chivu infamously blamed.
