Two of football’s greatest foes could well united in South America.
Neymar, the face of Brazil for much of his career, is sensationally being linked to Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
Just a week ago Neymar’s Santos played away in Argentina against San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana, and the feeling of love was mutual.
Argentine fans paid tribute to a player they love, and post-match he gave it back.
Argentine love for Neymar
“I would like to thank everyone who was at the stadium today, thank you for your support,” Neymar said. “This once again shows what I have achieved in football.
“Thank you San Lorenzo. A special day that will remain in my memory and that of my family.”
During the time in Argentine it was noted by Neymar that he felt more loved by those rival fans than his own in Brazil.
Later, he and some of his Santos teammates went to watch a Boca match at La Bombonera stadium and he was even presented with a club shirt.
Unsubstantiated rumours about a move emerged, but now they’re being very much substantiated by multiple sources.
Boca approach Neymar
Argentine journalist Tincho Cividino said that: “Boca Juniors contacted Neymar to inquire about his current situation and what possibilities exist after the World Cup.”
Leading Argentine outlet Olé have since revealed that he also got a guided tour of the stadium from former PSG teammate Ander Herrera and they discussed what it’s like to play for the club.
Another former teammate, Leandro Paredes, later said in an interview: “I talk to Neymar a lot, I really have a great relationship with him, we’re friends.”
Asked if he’d like to play with him at Boca, he added: “We’ll wait for him if he wants to come.”
Neymar is signed with Santos through until the end of 2026, with the Brazilian season following the annual calendar.
Things are far from great back at his first ever club, though, with Santos edging towards another relegation fight.
On top of that, he’s now having to deal with the fallout from a training ground bust-up with Robinho Jr.
According to the most recent reports, Robinho’s son has asked to leave, which could well put Neymar’s future in doubt.
Globo wrote: “Santos received an extrajudicial notification from Robinho Jr.’s representatives demanding action regarding the incident that occurred on Sunday during training at the CT Rei Pelé.
“The 18-year-old has filed three accusations against Neymar and is requesting a meeting with the club to discuss terminating his contract.”
