There were dramatic scenes at Santos’ afternoon training today as Neymar and his teammates were confronted by ultras during a break-in.
Globo Esporte report that the Sangue Jovem ultras stormed the club’s Vila Belmiro training centre, with footage showing Neymar and director of football Alexandre Mattos standing in front of the squad to take the abuse.
The leader of the group could be heard saying to Neymar: “You’re the star of this team. You’re one of the greatest players on the planet.
“If you cry, imagine the rest of these guys. If you cry, imagine the rest of these guys, bro.
“If you argue with a fan, you’ll give anyone here the chance to argue with a fan.”
The fury came after Santos lost 6-0 to Vasco de Gama, plunging them towards a relegation battle.
The ultra leader continued: “Morumbi [stadium], with 55,000 people, you’re making fun of us.
“What’s happening here is not enough. I can tell you: ‘Oh, I know, it’s violence.’ You need to be slapped in the face with an open hand, that’s the reality.”
A relaxed-looking Neymar could be heard responding: “We’re trying to change things.”
Further videos online then showed police arriving at the training ground to disperse the fans.
