Rodri has instantly won the hearts of Barcelona fans with just a single comment.
The best player at the 2026 World Cup has officially moved back to Spain from Manchester City in a £65million deal.
Formerly of Atletico Madrid, Rodri was long chased by Real Madrid, including during the current window.
In the end he gave his yes to Barca, a decision which left heads spinning in the capital.
And to make matters more intense, Rodri made sure he’d be booed on his first Bernabeu visit with a pointed comment.
Rodri references Real Madrid in Barca signing
Speaking at his presentation, he said: “I had another option, but Barcelona was my priority, and I made that clear to Joan Laporta [club president].
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a very special day, an important new chapter in my career.
“With my family and those close to me, we made the decision that seemed the wisest to us. My decisions have always been linked to a sporting challenge.”
He added: “When offers come in, the first step was understanding that a chapter at my club had ended and it was time to look for a way out.
“It took me a while to accept that. It was the most special club I’ve ever been at.
“I studied and analysed them; they were very important clubs. Together with my family and friends, we made the decision we believed was best. My decisions have always been linked to a sporting challenge.
“I’ve spent almost two months with many of my teammates; it’s been a warm welcome. It’s a very young dressing room, eager to achieve great things.
“I hope to contribute to what they’ve brought me here for. I’m joining a well-integrated dressing room, full of enthusiasm.”
Rodri and Flick trade compliments
Rodri also hinted that it may have been a case of Hansi Flick over Jose Mourinho in flattering comments about the German.
“I spoke with Hansi. He conveyed his enthusiasm to me,” he said.
“I’m very motivated to train with him; he has a very bold style of play, which appeals to me a lot.
“I still have room for improvement, and he can help me develop further. He’s a transparent coach; he tells you what he expects from you.
“He’s bringing the experience the team needs. I want to inspire my teammates and contribute.”
Flick then returned the praise with his own comments about Rodri.
“It was a great opportunity for us to be able to sign him, so we were all 100% convinced because he’s a fantastic player,” he said.
“He’s a fantastic player who brings something special to every team, and for me, it’s great to have him here.
“I think he’s perhaps the best number 6 in the world, he can control the game, but he also helps in defence, he can win aerial duels, which is very important for us, and of course, he raises the level of every player.”
