Having recently spoke about the difficulties of fame, Neymar took it out on a Santos fan who went a little too far.
Santos aren’t on a great run this season even with their captain seemingly injury free.
15th in the Brasileirão, they drew Recoleta on Tuesday night in the Copa Sudamerica, the South American Europa League.
The result keeps them bottom of their group, even with Neymar scoring a fourth minute opener in the 1-1 draw.
Things turn nasty for Neymar
And heading off the pitch post-match, one fan lashed out at the Brazil great.
“You should have trained more. You’re a bit fat, damn it!” the individual was heard shouting.
They were also heard by Neymar who decided to respond.
“I have to do everything? Shut up!” he replied.
“Am I being impulsive? I give my life here! Show some respect!”
Discussing the viral exchange after, Neymar added: “When I am attacked in this way, I do not accept it.
“I am very consistent, I give my life for football, for this club, I do even more than I should, so I cannot be treated like this.”
Neymar could return for Brazil
The outburst comes after a week of relatively good news for Neymar.
Brazil’s all-time top scorer hasn’t played for the national team since October 2023 and Carlo Ancelotti had given no indication that would change.
During the last international break Neymar received the backing of big figures in Marquinhos and Romario, and Ancelotti has since changed his tune.
“He’s a great talent and it’s normal that people think he can help us win the next World Cup,” the Italian told France Football.
“Neymar is capable of returning to 100% and still has two months to show that he has the qualities to play in the next World Cup.
“I will call up the players who are physically ready. After his knee injury, he has made a good comeback, he is scoring goals.
“He must continue in this direction and improve his condition. He is on the right track.”
Brazil captain Marquinhos had previously given his approval to Ancelotti in effusive terms.
He commented: “I sincerely believe it will happen.
“He really wants to get back in shape. And we, as teammates, Brazilians, and fans, also want him to participate in this World Cup.”
Marquinhos continued: “For us defenders, it’s horrible [to face him]. You close down on the right, he goes left; you close down on the left, he goes right.
“When you think it’s impossible for him to get out, he invents a move, a little dance step, and he manages to escape.
“Every day he created something he had never done before, he impressed us.”
Earlier discussing his snubs by Ancelotti, Neymar said: “I’m going to speak because I can’t stay silent.
“Obviously, I’m upset and sad about not being called up, but my focus remains the same: day after day, training session after training session, match after match.
“We will achieve our goal. The dream continues.”
Ancelotti is expected to name his final squad for the 2026 World Cup on May 18th.
