A week on from announcing his decision to leave Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels looks no closer to sorting out his future.
The 35-year-old defender, who was a surprise omission from Germany’s Euro 2024 squad, has been on holiday in Mallorca working out where he will go next.
Hummels has already made it abundantly clear that he won’t be going to Saudi or the US, as he wants to sign with a team that has history and a solid fanbase.
Corriere dello Sport claim that his dream club is seven-time European Cup winners AC Milan, however, when his father and agent Hermann spoke to Milan, there was no interest back the other way.
Since then two clear favourites have emerged, Roma and Mallorca. Roma have already sent a proposal worth €3million a year to Hummels, while Mallorca have the advantage of a lifestyle Hummels loves, having already brought a property there. The island side are also on the up, having made last season’s Copa del Rey final.
Now, though, there’s a third candidate – Napoli. Corriere dello Sport now add that Antonio Conte has made the defender a target, and Hummels’ options are now opening up.
