Former Argentine footballer Ezequiel Lavezzi is currently hospitalized in a medical facility in Punta del Este, Uruguay, following a clavicle fracture.
The Police Headquarters of the Maldonado department reported this on Wednesday through a statement, however, local media and Diario AS report that he also has an abdominal wound from a sharp object.
The circumstances leading to the incident remain unknown, but various accounts suggest it may have stemmed from a family dispute.
Journalist Alexis Cadimar reported, ‘Argentine player Ezequiel Lavezzi was stabbed in Punta del Este. They say it was a family brawl. He is currently admitted to Sanatorio Cantegril with an abdominal wound and a clavicle fracture.’
Conversely, Lavezzi’s family claims he fell from a ladder while changing a lamp, hitting a piece of furniture that resulted in shoulder injuries. Authorities are investigating to ascertain the details surrounding the Argentine’s situation.
According to reports, emergency assistance was sought for the former Argentine footballer’s injury, with a diagnosis of a “clavicle fracture.” Subsequently, he was transported to Sanatorio Cantegril in Punta del Este, as stated in the official release.
Born in the Argentine province of Santa Fe in May 1985, Lavezzi participated in the 2014 Brazil World Cup with the national team, securing second place after a 1-0 defeat to Germany in the final. He also contributed to the gold medal-winning team in the 2008 Olympics, with Argentina defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the final, courtesy of a goal from Ángel Di María.
Throughout his career, Lavezzi played for clubs such as Estudiantes de Buenos Aires, San Lorenzo, Napoli in Italy, Paris Saint-Germain, and Hebei China Fortune.
