Edin Terzic has handed in his resignation at Borussia Dortmund, and Mats Hummels will be delighted.
The veteran defender, who has already attacked the coach on multiple times, gave the club an ultimatum this week.
Sky and BILD both reported that the Champions League star would leave the club if Terzic stayed.
That pressure comes after an interview with BILD three days before the Champions League final in which Hummels said he was ‘furious’ with Terzic’s tactics for the first half of the season.
He also admitted things improved after the winter break, when, not coincidentally, Nuri Sahin took over first-team training.
The first half of the season saw BVB slump to mid-table mediocrity and there were widely reported to be two crisis meetings between CEO Hans Joachim Watzke and sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
Sky claim that one of those was triggered by a players’ revolt, led by Hummels.
It looked almost certain that Terzic would leave at the end of the season, with Sahin potentially replacing him, but that projection was flipped on its head when Dortmund made the Champions League final despite their disastrous Bundesliga form.
However, Hummels has been strident in his pursuit of removing Terizic, and it may well have sealed his BVB exit.
It now looks likely that the 35-year-old will depart for Italy, with relationships between himself and club executives in tatters after the Terzic affair.
