Jeremie Frimpong hasn’t made the Netherlands’ 26-man list for the 2026 World Cup.
Ronald Koeman has named his final squad for the tournament in the Americas and Frimpong is the most notable absentee.
The Liverpool wideman was in the provisional 40-man list, but has joined the group of dropped players for the Americas.
Koeman will now explain his choices, with foot.mundo publishing live updates as they come.
Discussing Frimong, he said: “He has dealt with a lot of injuries, but I have also chosen someone else now: Summerville.
“I like those kinds of players who are reliable in their football. He can play very well on the right side as well. He is very good in terms of his work ethic.”
Koeman also revealed Frimpong isn’t in his standby list, adding: “Maatsen and Geertruida are on the standby list, and that naturally has to do with Jurriën Timber’s fitness.
“It remains to be seen whether he will make the Champions League final on Saturday.”
Frimpong moved to Liverpool last summer from Bayer Leverkusen in a £29.5million deal.
One of the best wingbacks in Europe, he was unable to find such a spot at Liverpool, switching between right back and the right wing, unable to settle in either position.
Liverpool ended the season trophyless with a dire defensive record, and now Frimpong has paid the price.
He ended the season with just two goals and an assist in 35 games, a massive drop from his 14 goals and 10 assists for Leverkusen during their domestic double.
For his country, Frimpong has 15 games and a goal, and was included in their last March squad.
12 players were dropped by Koeman, with Emmanuel Emegha and Matthijs de Ligt already removed through injury.
Joining Frimpong in missing out are: Kjell Scherpen, Justin Bijlow, Stefan de Vrij, Ian Maatsen, Sven Botman, Devyne Rensch, Kenneth Taylor, Luciano Valente, Kees Smit, Lutsharel Geertruida and Sven Botman.
Other headlines outside of Frimpong come particularly up front where Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst have been included.
Depay is the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer, but is currently injured for Corinthians.
Arsenal’s Quinten Timber has also been included despite being injured.
