Despite falling out with yet another club and fanbase, Romelu Lukaku was sure to blame Napoli for another knock to his reputation.
The Belgian has just arrived at Fenerbahce having made himself an enemy at Napoli, Chelsea, Inter and Roma.
At his most recent club he was accused of refusing to return to Naples after the March international break.
When Lukaku did eventually come back, it was just for an hour, avoiding Antonio Conte, the man who has twice rehabilitated his career.
The striker ended up paying heavy fines as he continued to put his World Cup ahead of the team that was paying him, and now he claims it’s their fault.
Lukaku says Napoli lied about his fitness
In an arrival interview, he said: “This has been the worst year of my life.
“I heard a lot of things, and certain decisions were made. If that was the situation, the best thing was to leave.
“The claim that I wasn’t fit is completely false. They probably said that in Italy to hurt my chances.
“I’m 100% fit and ready to play. I need motivation until the end of my career.
“This is what’s best for me. I want to keep competing at the highest level. I’m in a strong league, fighting for titles, and who knows, maybe even playing in the Champions League.”

Asked about his future, he added: “I’ve signed with Fenerbahce for one season, with an option for another. I hope to fulfill those two years.
“After that, I’ll return home and continue playing, without a doubt. I’ve always said I want to play until 2030, also with the national team. After that… game over.”
Conte ends Lukaku’s Napoli career
Ending Lukaku’s Napoli career in April, Conte confirmed the story that Lukaku had avoided him on a brief return to Italy.
He said: “I haven’t had the chance to speak to him.
“I know one of our directors spoke to us and that he came to the training centre.
“My office was there, but no one knocked on my door. I was very disappointed about that.
“I would have expected a greeting, a message, or something. The coach has to try to understand everyone, but no one is making the effort to understand the coach in this case.”
