Mats Hummels has likely played his final game for Borussia Dortmund, and it’s thanks to Edin Terzic.
Patrick Berger of Sky Sports Germany has revealed that the veteran defender will only stay at BVB if the head coach leaves. That’s now impossible, with Terzic untouchable after guiding Dortmund to the Champions League final.
Club management held two crisis meetings over Terzic’s future during the festive period after a horror run of results put their top four hopes in jeopardy.
It was also reported at the time that Hummels was one of a number of dressing room leaders who sought direct talks with the coach after a hapless 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart in December during a seven-game winless run.
Later, in the build-up to the Champions League final, Hummels told BILD that he was ‘furious’ with Terzic’s tactics in the first half of the season.
Terzic awkwardly admitted he’d rather those conversations took place behind closed doors, and it seems things haven’t settled between the pair ever since.
In a podcast interview ahead of the final, Hummels said he has no interest in playing in MLS or Saudi Arabia, and it likely to move to a historical club in Europe. Links to AC Milan haven’t gone away, while Roma have also registered an interest.
