Mats Hummels has announced he’ll retire at the end of the season, but when is the end of the season?
The 2014 World Cup winner announced the news last week explaining that he’ll be departing AS Roma at the end of his contract.
However, a sensational report from BILD now claims he could make a brief return to Borussia Dortmund.
That’s because the Bundesliga side are in the Club World Cup after his Roma deal ends.
They claim there have been preliminary talks between the two parties, but any negotiations are still in early stages.
Yet with Nico Schlotterbeck out until next season and Waldemar Anton and Nilkas Sule struggling for fitness the deal could make sense.
The revamped Club World Cup runs from June 14 to July 13 and although contracts usually expire on June 30, Hummels’ final fixture as a Roma player is on May 25.
