Gian Piero Gasperini has chosen his wife and children over the beautiful woman – as he would put it.
The Atalanta coach, who used an affair analogy to describe Napoli‘s approach for his services, has decided to stay in Bergamo.
Corriere dello Sport reports that Gasperini has informed Atalanta president Antonio Percassi that he will honour the final year of his contract.
The decision comes after he led the team to a phenomenal 3-0 Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen, capturing just the second major trophy in Atalanta’s history.
Napoli had publically and privately been chasing Gasperini as their no.1 candidate for the 2024/25 season, something the veteran even joked about post-trophy lift.
“I’m in a situation where you have a wife with children and you find a beautiful woman… I don’t know if the comparison holds up,” he told Sky.
Now, though, Napoli will have to look elsewhere, and Corriere dello Sport confidently claims that owner and chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has already moved on to Antonio Conte.
The outlet claims that De Laurentiis has already begun an ‘all-out’ negotiation with the four-time Serie A-winning manager, and that they will hope to find an agreement this week.
