Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini is a wanted man, but that was already the case even before the Europa League final.
The 66-year-old Italian won his first major trophy in Dublin, downing Bayer Leverkusen 3-0, stunning a side that were previously unbeaten in 51 games.
Gasperini clearly out-coached the massively-rated Xabi Alonso, and having already been to the Coppa Italia final this season, he certainly has eyes on him.
Most interested in the head coach is Napoli owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has even gone as far as public flattery, saying he prefers to watch Atalanta over any other team.
Now those links are only accelerating, and Gasperini commented in rather amusing fashion.
Speaking post-match about a move to Naples, he said: “Will I stay? Now let’s celebrate.
“I’m in a situation where you have a wife with children and you find a beautiful woman… I don’t know if the comparison holds up.
“How long do we have to wait? There is no waiting, these things must be resolved very quickly.”
