Roma were looking for a coach younger than Claudio Ranieri, but have seemingly decided to settle for just six years less.
A report from the Rome-based Corriere dello Sport has claimed that the club’s Friedkin owners have decided on Gian Piero Gasperini as their first choice coaching option next season.
Ranieri has agreed with the call, and the Europa League-winning Atalanta manager has continued to make noises that he could depart, having turned down Napoli last summer.
In fact, as soon as the news broke, someone managed to get a microphone in front of Gasperini who was at an awards ceremony.
“Who wouldn’t like it [to coach Roma]?” he said. “It’s a great place, extraordinary, they have exceptional fans.
“It would be a source of pride, but what will happen is difficult to predict. Roma is like the national team, everyone likes them.”
