Fresh off his first trophy as a manager Gian Piero Gasperini is in a boisterous mood.
The Atalanta coach did what looked impossible in May, becoming the only team to beat Bayer Leverkusen this season, doing so in the Europa League final.
The feat was interrupted by talk that he would be joining Napoli, but after consideration, he decided to stay.
Atalanta are now back in the Champions League, and the only way is up after the financial windfall of the second trophy in their history.
However, when asked how he can close the gap to Serie A champions Inter, Gasperini took aim at how the Milan side are run.
“How can we close the gap with them? One way to put ourselves a billion in debt spending money on ridiculous contracts…
He continued: “Another way is not selling the best players and instead buying new ones. The third is by looking at who you are with ambition, with the clarity of understanding how the world is going. Otherwise, it’s all just talk.”
Asked how he will prepare differently for the 2024/25 season ‘Gasp’ also sent a warning to players to not enjoy themselves too much over the summer break.
“What won’t I tolerate at the start of training camp? Don’t be fat,” he said. “Everyone can play football, short, tall… everyone except the fat ones.
“We will resume on July 10th, and for those who continue with the national team I have still promised 20 days of vacation, it’s well deserved, starting from when they finish at the European Championships.”
