Now famous for his ridiculously powerful shooting technique, Fede Valverde has admitted it used to get him in trouble.
The Real Madrid midfielder has made scoring rockets a side project amid his most productive professional season.
Yet back when he first joined the club’s academy from Uruguay, it did him more harm than good.
“I injured one or two goalkeepers,” he told Terapia Piacante.
“I injured Luca Zidane’s shoulder. I was devastated, I thought they were going to fire me. I injured Zidane’s son.
“Some goalkeepers were injured by my shots. Especially in the shoulder. I have really skinny legs, I don’t know where I get that from.”
Speaking of his perceived physical weaknesses, Valverde also spoke about clips that went viral of his voice while a young player at Penarol.
Unfairly compared to Mickey Mouse at the time, he explained: “When I spoke, I had a problem with my throat, and I was always advised to have surgery.
“We were a modest family and couldn’t afford an operation overnight. We thought it was just a teenage problem, that it would eventually go away, but it never did.
“I don’t know when it changed, but at that time, it hadn’t changed yet. Now it’s gone, thank God, but at the time, I suffered a lot from it.”
