France vs Spain will determine the winner of the World Cup.
That’s at least according to Lamine Yamal, who says the match should be the final.
Speaking after knocking Belgium out at the quarter final stage, the Spain winger said of France: “This is the final before the final.”
The quote was put to Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni, and he batted it away diplomatically.
Scaloni agrees France and Spain are favourites
“I agree,” he said. “I don’t think what he says is wrong.
“Before the World Cup, we were already saying they were among the favourites. Spain deserved to beat Belgium earlier.
“France stepped up against Morocco. But unfortunately, only one of the two will reach the final.”
The England camp is yet to respond to the comments, but the France group has replied to other provocations from Lamine.
The teen star continues to point out that Spain have won their last two meetings, and that France should be afraid.
France pile the pressure on Lamine and Spain
Real Madrid’s Ibrahima Konate said: “He can say whatever he wants… no, no, we’re not afraid, we shouldn’t be afraid of anyone.
“But we’d rather remain humble and not fall into that trap, especially at this stage of the competition.
“Honestly, we don’t listen to what’s being said. We’re going to try to prepare as best as possible and at the end of the game we’ll see who wins.”
Didier Deschamps went even further, insisting Spain are the favourites.
He added: “They’re the current European champions.
“We played them last summer in the Nations League semi-final, so… We were considered favorites before this World Cup, but Spain is the favourite.
“That puts more pressure on them because of everything they’ve done. Even though they lost the final against Portugal, they’re a very good team with many strengths.
“It’s the first semi-final of the World Cup, so the level will be very high.”
