Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has admitted getting a new contract for Scott McTominay will be tricky.
The Scottish midfielder has two years left on his deal, but Napoli are keen not to let him enter the final year.
confirming talks were taking place, Manna said: “We’re talking about it. We’ve met, he’s an important player, he has two years left on his contract.
“We want to try to do it, he wants to do it, then we need to make things coincide. It’s not always easy , but we’re trying.”
Manna also went on to give an update on McTominay’s heart procedure that is keeping him out of action.

He added: “It’s an ablation procedure. He has 28 days to be fit for action because he’s taking banned anticoagulants.
“He needs to rest for two weeks before resuming non-contact competitive activity. From there, another two or three weeks will pass.
“That’s the timeframe. Then, if he’s slow in his fitness and needs more time, we’ll see how it goes.
“That’s why we’ve decided to bring the timing forward, to try to have him back after the break, where there will be nine matches.”
