Albert Riera didn’t disappoint with an entertaining first press conference as Eintracht Frankfurt’s new head coach.
The Spaniard rocked up in the Bundesliga as a surprise appointment, having impressed in Slovenia, but not much more.
Long earmarked as an interesting candidate to reach the top level, he now has, and his old school discipline plays into it.
Explaining three non-negotiables, he said: “There are only three rules. The first is incredibly simple: respect in the locker room.
“Everyone at the club has to show respect to create a good atmosphere every day.
“The second rule is: how you train is how you play.
“The third rule states that they have to ask themselves the magic question: what am I giving the team with and without the ball?”
Riera went on to reveal his punishments at Celje in Slovenia included making the players walk around the stadium.
They’re likely to start milder, though, as he added: “They will also have to do a job.
“Clean the team’s boots, work with the analyst for an hour, or maybe even help the groundskeeper for an hour.
“They should understand what all these jobs entail.”
