Sacked after a dire spell in the dugout and the press room, Albert Riera has learned nothing.
The controversial Spaniard was a panic hire by Eintracht Frankfurt with director Markus Krosche trying desperately to find a new Xabi Alonso.
Hired in January, Riera played some boring football, making his press conferences the main show as he got nasty with journalists.
Now a month on from his sacking in May, Riera is settling scores.
Assessing the Bundesliga, he wasn’t too kind.
“To be honest, I was somewhat disappointed by the level of the Bundesliga,” he said on Slovenian TV station Sportklub.
“Bayern Munich is of course in a world of its own, Borussia Dortmund can keep up to some extent with their budget.
“Then there are surprises like Stuttgart, but the rest was disappointing for me.
“The teams in the bottom third of the table all play in exactly the same way. When you analyse them, you get the feeling you’re playing against the same opponent every week.”
Riera, who’s had all of his coaching successes Slovenia, then compared the Bundesliga to that league.
“When we see the sums of money flowing in Germany – 20, 30, even 40 million euros – then it’s no different compared to Slovenia. That’s the reality,” he said.
“If Celje [his former Slovenian team] were to play against Frankfurt, they could compete. The difference is smaller than it appears from the outside.”
