Just seven games into his Eintracht Frankfurt tenure and Albert Riera is already at risk of not being there next season.
The Spaniard arrived in February to much fanfare given his unique press conference style and self confidence.
However, Sky Germany report that his character is already wearing thin on the players amid a turn in results.
Frankfurt have had a fairly easy run against a number of relegation candidates, and against a Mainz side pulling themselves out of the fray they lost 2-1.
That second loss in seven is turning the dressing room against him who aren’t happy with overly defensive tactics.
On top of that, they add that: “His tactical instructions are highly complex.
“The regular meetings often last longer than an hour and sometimes seem to overburden even his own players.”
Riera questions Frankfurt’s quality
Riera then made matters worse by critiquing the players’ quality after the Mainz match.
He commented: “I can offer solutions and dictate how we need to move. But I’m standing here on the sideline; I can’t make the final pass.
“You know, sometimes I see the gap, but the player doesn’t.
“This isn’t meant as criticism of the players, but ultimately, in the final quarter, it comes down to the quality of the players.
“I always say that we coaches can teach the players everything, but in the end, it’s quality that counts.”
While Sky say his tenure isn’t yet in ‘crisis mode’ the pressure is certainly mounting over whether Frankfurt took too big a gamble
