Albert Riera probably should have done his research before facing Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League.
The former Liverpool and Galatasaray winger continues to impress as a coach, but he doesn’t exactly seem like the most pleasant guy.
Having returned to Slovenian side NK Celje after a spell with Bordeaux, Riera’s side were knocked out of Europa League qualifying by Shamrock and then faced them again in the Conference League.
This time they got revenge with a 2-0 win, but the Spaniard decided to go after opposition coach Stephen Bradley post-match after refusing to shake his hand.
“Bradley has been in Ireland for many years. I think he’s been here for nine years already,” he said.
“Even after winning in this country, he stays here. No foreign club comes looking for him. I think that means something.”
Bradley has been chased by numerous Championship sides over the years, but has stayed in Ireland due to his son’s struggles with leukemia.
Responding to Riera, he said: “This man has no class, in any respect. I think that’s obvious.
“His words sum it up well. I think if he had done his homework, he wouldn’t be talking like that. I think my number one priority in recent years has been quite clear.”
