PSG’s Desire Doue has been named the 2025 Golden Boy, but there’s another award that may be troubling him.
The 20-year-old won the prestigious award, taking over from 2024 winner Lamine Yamal after a sublime Champions League final display.
Doue forced his way into Paris‘ starting line up to end the season, and ended up with two goals and an assist in a record 5-0 final win over Inter Milan.
Yet that might be the source of his problems during an injury hit 2025/26 campaign.
Doue has spent much of this year on the sidelines, and that isn’t unusual for a Champions League final Man of the Match.
Dating back five seasons now the MOTM from the final has gone on to endure a torrid campaign next time out.
The past three seasons each MOTM has sustained an ACL injury keeping them out of much of the year.
They were Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Rodri (Manchester City) and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid).
In the case of Carvajal and Rodri, neither player is yet to fully recover from their respective knee injuries.
Before that N’Golo Kante went from being one of the best midfielders in the world to a spent force at Chelsea and was never at the top level again with groin and knee ailments.
And the beginning of it all was Kingsley Coman, who again went from his best form at Bayern Munich so multiple struggles dampening his performance the next campaign.
