Despite a goal celebration that suggested otherwise, PSG’s Desire Doue insists he didn’t think he was the target of Ousmane Dembele’s criticism.
PSG briefly relinquished their Ligue 1 lead with defeat to Rennes on February 13th and Doue was particularly poor and selfish with the ball in the 3-1 defeat.
Post-match Ballon d’Or winner Dembele said his teammates needed to ‘play for the club first instead of thinking about themselves’, comments that were widely interpreted as a dig at Doue.
Next time out in the Champions League Doue scored a brace, first covering his ears and then putting his fingers in them for the second.
That again was interpreted as a reply to Dembele, but Doue has calmly suggested it wasn’t.
Doue puts the issue to bed
“I didn’t feel targeted,” the Golden Boy Award winner told the media.
“Leaders have the right to speak up and must do so at certain times.
“It’s normal to feel frustrated after a defeat; we’re a team with huge ambitions.
“We always speak very frankly to each other and we’re happy to be moving forward together.”
