The pressure is building on Thiago Motta thanks to a difficult start at Juventus.
The Italian giants are 16 points off Serie A leaders Napoli and struggling in the Champions League, ending their league phase campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Benfica.
Yet despite the struggles of the former Bologna coach, Juve continue to back Motta, particularly in the transfer market where they’ve allowed him to shift captain Danilo and try and make a huge loss on Dusan Vlahovic.
Danilo’s departure is particularly curious given he is a club great and was a certain starter under Max Allegri, and the Brazilian fullback has made things clear after arriving at Flamengo.
“I suffered a lot. I don’t think it’s worth naming names, ” he said before seemingly making it clear he was talking about Motta.
“Juventus has always been a family, it has always been attentive to detail and the human aspect.
“That has been lost a bit in the last six months, and I think the latest results and events are largely due to the loss of that identity, of the family, of the attention to detail, of the care for the human side of the players. If we get back on that path as soon as possible, the results will come back.”
The comments are the latest blow to Motta following Fabio Capello’s stinging criticism of him following the Benfica defeat.
The legendary coach said: “We expected Juventus to have problems playing against a Portuguese team and that’s what happened.
“Against these technically strong teams, if you don’t have a midfield or a defence that works well, you’ll face great difficulties.
“Juve were disorganized on the pitch. The players are doing their homework. It seems that the coach doesn’t want to let them express themselves freely and they are afraid of disobeying the orders given.
“But how can you expect that by changing six players, making them play in positions in which they never play, could be organized? I’m asking myself this question”.
