Mr. Cool throughout his playing and coaching career, Thiago Motta is being pushed to the limit at Juventus.
The former midfielder exited the Champions League to PSV and Coppa Italia to Empoli in the space of a week, and now a good run of Serie A form has been ended by a 4-0 home hammering by Atalanta.
It increasingly looks like the coach won’t be retained next season with fans even chanting for Max Allegri during the defeat, and post-match Motta showed a rare moment of anger.
The Brazilian-born Italian was asked if he should be showing more emotion, and when a reporter interrupted his answer, Motta bit back.
“You asked the question and now you listen to me,” he said.
“If you expect me to throw bottles or make a scene, it’s not in my nature. I’m not like that, I know my role.
“I’m a serious and honest person, I recognise the superiority of the opponent today. We have the obligation and responsibility to start the week well because we have an important match against Fiorentina.
“You will never see something from me that I don’t truly feel: I won’t come here to make a scene because the others have to see. A defeat like that is difficult to digest, I’m sad.
“From tomorrow we must have the strength to start again and think about the next match. We need to unite the dressing room even more, not as you wrote wrongly speaking about the friend of a friend.”
