Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness has entered the picture to become Real Madrid coach next season.
BILD report that the reigning DFB Pokal winner is among Florentino Perez’s very short shortlist.
Alvaro Arbeloa will depart the club after a disappointing season replacing Xabi Alonso.
Real Madrid’s shortlist
So far only more senior candidates have been linked to the role, with Zinedine Zidane Perez’s dream to return.
However, ‘Zizou’ has already agreed to take the France job after the World Cup, with the man he’ll replace, Didier Deschamps, instead being placed on Perez’s list.
Jurgen Klopp is also a favourite of Perez, but insists he’s currently retired from coaching, while Jose Mourinho and Max Allegri remain outside candidates.
As such, Mauricio Pochettino continues to be talked about as the most likely option, with Perez a huge fan and the Argentine likely available after the World Cup.
Hoeness to Madrid?
However, this is where Hoeness comes in.
The 43-year-old has a contract until 2028 without a release clause, making him far more available than the other options.
The report adds that Madrid are yet to make contact with either Hoeness or Stuttgart, perhaps waiting to see how this season unfolds.
Hoeness continues to excel at Stuttgart and could well defend his Pokal crown back in the semi-finals.
On top of that, his side are on course for another Champions League finish despite having their squad gutted in back-to-back summers.
Hoeness comes from a footballing family and has already shown his adeptness to pressure along with his tactical acumen and repeated squad building.
On top of that, he’s sublime at keeping his emotions in check while handling the media, a skill of utmost importance in Madrid.
