Rumours about Real Madrid’s interest in Jurgen Klopp have been given far more weight by a report from MARCA.
The links to the former Liverpool manager first emerged last week from the incredibly unreliable Sport in Barcelona.
And although the chances of Klopp coming out of retirement for the Bernabeu still seem slim, the source has at least been identified.
Journalist Raúl Varela explained: “We are talking about the figure of Anas Laghrari, this Moroccan investor, forged in Swiss banking.
“Right now, he’s the main support of Florentino Pérez in this Super League project. He is a fan, absolutely in love with the figure of Jürgen Klopp.
“He is the one who has suggested in recent weeks, I would say months, to the president of Real Madrid that he contemplate, that he open that range and think about the figure of Jürgen Klopp.”
Varela explained that Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso remains the preference of Perez and Madrid, while Carlo Ancelotti is keen to stay despite exiting the Champions League.
He added: “What I can say and report at this time of the morning is that Ancelotti wants to stay at Real Madrid.
“Ancelotti would be very excited to see out the remaining year of his contract at Real Madrid. I think Ancelotti has already made up his mind, he has already made the decision about what to do if he doesn’t stay at Real Madrid.
“That decision, despite being opposed by a large part of his entourage, the most personal, the most familiar, the least football-minded, the least professional, is to become Brazil’s coach. I repeat: as long as he doesn’t stay at Real Madrid.”
