Stuttgart had their best season since 2007 last time out with a runners-up Bundesliga finish, but everything is slowly fading away.
VfB looked set for a new era under the massively-rated Sebastian Hoeness, but a weak summer in the transfer market has seen supporters vote out their president at a general meeting.
Claus Vogt was dismissed by 86% of members, with only 75% needed to remove him from his post. Vice-president Rainer Adrion also stepped down, despite the vote for his removal only reaching the 70% mark.
“Of course, this affects me deeply, I have given everything for VfB over the last six years. But that is democracy,” Vogt said, with Adrion adding: “The trust in me is no longer there.”
In the memorandums submitted by fans the duo were accused of a lack of trust and discord within the executive committee. A lack of transparency was also criticised, particularly regarding the investment of Porsche.
Such moves come after what has been a negative summer for Stuttgart in the transfer market, with top scorer Serhou Guirassy and captain Waldemar Anton heading for Borussia Dortmund, while Denis Undav looks unlikely to return from Brighton.
Such turmoil has caused plenty of debate in Germany, with former Stuttgart coach and managerial legend Felix Magath commenting: “This is a very dangerous situation for the club.”
