It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but Alvaro Morata’s Atletico Madrid departure isn’t going down well.
The Euro 2024-winning Spain captain is set to join AC Milan this week, a fortnight on from committing his future to Atleti.
Had it not been for his commitment to the Madrid side, the departure wouldn’t have been at all shocking, with Morata confessing that he’s happier outside of Spain, and Atleti fans turning on him after a poor season.
However, his next act certainly was an odd one.
During Spain’s Euro 2024 celebrations in Madrid, the striker was seen dangling an Atleti flag over the side of the parade bus.
That provoked plenty of abuse on social media, with Morata responding to one comment on Instagram.
One of the more reasonable comments read: “A lot of Atleti flags but he is going to Milan.”
Responding to that remark, he wrote: “After Dortmund [Champions League exit] you all wanted to kick me out, but now I can’t leave.”
Morata swiftly deleted the comment, but not before it was screenshotted and spread online.
