Always on the move, Alvaro Morata has opened up on his last transfer, and what he wants his final one to be.
The striker, who won Euro 2024 as Spain‘s captain last summer, made the surprise decision in January to leave AC Milan after just six months.
Rocking up in Galatasaray on loan, it looks like his career may now be winding down, and he has some regrets about joining Milan in the first place.
“I should never have left Atletico Madrid, but I wasn’t well and when you’re not well you make bad decisions in every aspect of life,” he said.
“The Milan coach [Paulo Fonseca] called me every day, I needed to feel loved and considered, I had to decide quickly and I didn’t realise that [Deigo] Simeone also loved me and considered me.
“My father and my agent told me I was wrong but I didn’t listen to them, when you go through difficult times you see everything grey even if you have people around you who tell you it’s not like that.
“If I could go back I would never leave Atletico, but things can’t be changed and now I’m very happy”
Morata was going through a break-up at the time, but has since reunited with his girlfriend.
Looking forward, he doesn’t see an Atleti return, not least where he started at Real Madrid either, but instead a difference side from the capital.
“What I’ve always said, and I’ll stick with it as long as I can if they don’t ‘fire’ me, is the Getafe thing, which excites me a lot, even though people laugh and say things,” he admitted.
“They helped me a lot when I was a kid and I had an incredible time there. I have a lot of affection for them.
“I hope time passes, and I don’t know if Bordalás or another coach will be there, but well, maybe they don’t want me. I would be excited, but then whatever happens… we have to knock on wood.”
